Sh*t'n Rainbows!
My unfortunate innocent husband had no idea what he was getting in to when he married me over 15 years ago. You see, he never had the opportunity to wake up at the crack of dawn next to me. To his surprise, I don’t require coffee, when my eyes open a smile spreads across my face without any effort and I can burst out in song before my feet even hit the floor. My husband on the other hand is one of those normal fellows that needs to lay in bed for several minutes in complete silence as he ever so slowly opens his eyes and shields the light with an arm over his face. Whew, talk about some tense early morning moments in the beginning of our marriage! To his dismay, 2 of our children act just like their Mommy on most mornings. I consider him lucky – at 5:30 a.m. on a Monday morning, he might consider a different descriptive word!
He lovingly refers to my morning routine as “Sh*t’n Rainbows”. Hey, I love bright colors and sunshine after the rain. Thanks for the compliment Honey!
Loving Life . . . it is my theme, my anthem, my daily goal. I sign every email, card, letter, and message with "Loving Life". It’s not just 2 random “L” words out of the dictionary; together those words make me who I am. To me, it’s the only way to live life. Well, there is one thing I’ve learned by reading thousands of posts daily on FaceBook: there are plenty of other ways to live . . .
There’s the ever so popular Enduring Life Philosophy: “So glad this day is over. What a crappy day of work. Tomorrow already looks like a repeat of today, really dreading it!” ~ real life Face Book quote.
Waking up to yet another day of the same people, the same circumstances, expecting today to be the same as every other day. You keep your head down, working hard to bring home a buck and pay the mortgage for one more month. You go to bed completely exhausted only to wake up the next morning and do it again. You’re with the masses simply living for the weekend wishing away every other day. The thought of just sleeping it all away is very appealing. *Yawn*
How about the Fighting Life Philosophy: “Grow up and forget you ever knew me. Jealousy is evil and karma is a B, did I forget to mention, so am I!” ~ real life Face Book quote.
Everyone is against you. If anything bad could happen, it will happen to you and it will probably happen today. You wake up ready for a battle and strap on every weapon in your arsenal. Life is effortless for everyone but you, nothing comes easy in your life - you’re overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated. You’re surrounded by idiots everywhere you go, someone just shoot em’ all!
Then there is the Oblivious to Life Philosophy: “It’s Tuesday and I’m counting down the hours until Friday.” ~ real life Face Book quote.
Hey, you don’t really matter to this world. You couldn’t make a difference even if you tried, so why expend the extra energy. You have food, you have a house and you have a family but nothing in your life is really extraordinary. You’re living on auto-pilot - You drive for miles in your car without noticing a thing, at the end of the week you don’t recall anything that happened. Christmas will come and Christmas will go, you’re just another year older. You’re numb to it all, feeling no extreme pain or utter happiness. Blah, blah, blah no one’s listening anyway.
Loving Life Philosophy: “These are the shoes in which Baby Matthew took his first steps today” (with photo attached of ordinary baby shoes) ~ real life Face Book quote.
Every day in your life holds an abundance of opportunities and possibilities. You expect great things and look for the good in every situation. If the sun is shining, you’re soaking it in. If it’s raining, you’re dancing and jumping in the puddles. There is something good about every single person you meet. You are thankful to your very core - thankful for life, for love, for family, friends and a bright future. My goodness that’s a beautiful rainbow flying out of your butt.
Now I ask you my friend, what is your Life Philosophy? You weren’t born with your philosophy, you aren’t hard wired in a certain fashion, it’s not imprinted on your DNA. Over the years, through the influence of family, peers, friends and influences and experiences of every sort, you developed the Life Philosophy you presently hold.
So, is your philosophy serving you? Is it taking you to a desirable destination in life? It’s actually quite simple, if you don’t enjoy your current Life Philosophy, why not choose the one you want and start living it today? You can start by saying aloud each day which philosophy you choose – will you choose to Endure Life, Battle Life, be Oblivious to Life, or Love Life?
Try signing your next email with your life philosophy; make a statement to the world. If you choose to sign “Enduring Life” you will find many others enduring as well that will lend you sympathy. Sign “Battling Life” and fellow battlers will come join your war and give you something to fight about. “Oblivious to Live”, well you won’t get much of a response because those who understand are on auto-pilot as well and they won’t even notice. Try signing off with “Loving Life” and you will find a few smiling, happy go lucky individuals ready to share your passion for life.
So, how will you be signing off today?

Still Sh*t'n Rainbows and Loving Life,
Pamela

Sh*t'n Rainbows and Loving Life,
Pam,
I appreciate you sending me this link. Unfortunately, I think I was living the Fighting Life philosophy, but thanks to your encouragement and help from the doctor, I am starting to take positive steps to start Loving Life and not just waiting for it to be over. Thanks again for your helpful comments!
Darla ~ When you have lived for years in the Fighting Life Philosophy, it's hard to see the way out. However, one step at a time begin to focus on all you have to be thankful for and all the things that make it worth waking up every morning. Slowly, you will begin to love life and adopt a new perspective on life. We're all here for you along the way!
I'm working hard on the Loving Life and have adopted the song Defying Gravity from the Musical Wicked as my personal mantra. I listen to it every morning (off the Glee soundtrack) and it gives me a little jolt for the day.
"I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!"
